According to the AJC:
Branden Smith, CB: An oft-asked question is whether he will be used more extensively on offense, where he has been deployed occasionally the past two seasons. According to Smith, he has worked only at cornerback and on special teams this spring. “They haven’t told me anything about offense,” he said, referring to the coaches. “Right now, I’m just focused on defense.” He also remains in the mix to return punts, although kickoff-return record-holder Brandon Boykin has joined the competition there.
To me this is a very good thing. As good as Smith can be on offense I think he needs to concentrate on defense. There are plenty of play makers on offense and the few plays a game that Smith might make on offense are not worth stunting his growth further on defense. The defense has not gotten it done the last few years and they need all hands on deck if they are going to take the step needed to get back in the hunt for the SEC title. While a bit under sized Smith has the athletic ability to become a shut down in the SEC but I believe in order to do that he needs to spend all of his time on defense until he achieves that status.
