During Georgia's current five game winning streak several,ok most, of the wins have not been super impressive. Georgia has played well enough to win the games but still has not put together four quarters of quality play. None of their wins have come against anything more than an average team. The thing is though they are winning the games.
Let's look at a couple of games this weekend that involved teams Georgia beat "ugly". Alabama is considered by most people to be one of, if not the, top teams in the country. They played Tennessee today and though the final score was not close Tennessee gave Bama fits for a half. Alabama showed their talent level and quality as a team in the second half but UT stayed close for much longer than people expected. Arkansas, considered by most to be the third best team in the SEC, was down 17 to Ole Miss. The same Ole Miss team that despite a close final score never had a chance in their game against Georgia. Against Arkansas Ole Miss had the ball with a chance to win the game in the closing minutes. The Razorbacks won the game but it was not pretty and much tighter than they would have liked.
The way that UT and Ole Miss gave very good teams a solid run today go to show that in conference games it is not about how pretty a win looks, just that you win the game. If Georgia can continue to do what they have the last five games, just win baby, then they will put themselves in a great position to make the SECCG. While I would like to get there in style I'd still be excited to get their ugly.
Just ask Tech if winning all those early games "in style" helped them at all the last two weeks.
